Ciphonics (Pronounced as sʌɪ-ˈfəʊnɪks) was started unofficially by educator Miss Masturah Nordin back in 2017. Being a pre-school teacher, she often received requests from student parents, friends, and family members to aid their child in reading and writing. After her full-time work hours, she travels to each child abode to provide Phonics Tutoring.

Experience trained Miss Masturah in both Thematic and Reggio Emilia Approach. Having to prefer the latter, where children learn best through VAKT Learning Style (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Tactile), it supports learning through Play then Ciphonics was established, which ‘Ci’ was short for deciphering.

Ciphonics grew out of a need to make it easy for children to learn to read when English is such a complex language, which breaks all the rules and has vocabulary borrowed from many different languages. While at the same time making it affordable as we aim to support literacy among the community.

Ciphonics is a one stop Purposeful Play-Based Space offering Play Club (small ratio Playgroup), Student Care for Yishun Neighbour Primary Schools and Enrichment offering Phonics & Numeracy Private tutoring with snippets of Neuro-Play (Brain Gym) for children ages 2.5 to 7 years old.

All our classes , we integrate a multi-sensory approach for overall holistic learning. For example, gross motor skills (promotes mid-line crossing), aesthetic skills (enables creative writing), fine motor skills (promotes penmanship), and added simple brain games to encourage visual tracking for reading.

Our sessions are Personal 1 to 1, which have served us well while practicing safety precaution against the spread of Covid-19.

Ciphonics educators research children’s learning as an ongoing process and ensures that our long-term goals reflect the ‘whole’ child (physical development, cognitive development, language development)

 

Our educators curate lesson plans that are in line with the child’s literacy/cognitive levels while integrating with purposeful play activities that are age appropriate.

They identify each child learning styles by using the VAKT Multisensory Teaching approach into teach (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetics and Tactile).
